Historical-political education network

Network for historical-political education work on the history of persecution of Sinti* and Roma* under nationalsocialism

About the network

KogA coordinates the network of historical-political education work on the persecution of Sinti* and Roma* under nationalsocialism.

This network brings together multiplicators from NS-memorial sites, educational institutions and civil society organisations working on the persecution of Sinti* and Roma* under nationalsocialism and its continuities.

The central format of the network is an annual meeting at a NS memorial site. The focus is on the history of the respective historical sites with a focus on Sinti* and Roma* as persecuted groups and related educational programmes. In addition, there is usually a specific focus on a respective topic in which a particular facet of the topic is examined in more detail.

Online meetings are held to promote dialogue between colleagues in the field on (current) issues, challenges and examples of good practice in historical-political education that is critical of antiziganism.

Aims of the network

  • Strengthening perspectives critical of antiziganism
The network promotes the examination of the history of persecution of the Sinti* and Roma* under nationalsocialism from a perspective critical of antiziganism and contributes to the visualisation of the historical and current manifestations of antiziganism.
  • Reflection and further development of historical-political education work
It offers space for joint reflection and further development of concepts, methods and materials of historical-political education at NS-memorial sites - with a focus on Sinti* and Roma*/antiziganism.
  • Promoting exchange and networking
The aim is to promote a sustainable exchange of ideas between colleagues within the network in order to share experiences, challenges and examples of good practice. Transnational exchange with organisations in other European countries is also taken into account.
  • Anchoring the perspectives of Sinti* and Roma*
The participation, visualisation and thematisation of the voices, experiences and struggles of Sinti* and Roma* - especially in the educational and memorial site context - is a central concern.
  • Stimulating cross-institutional cooperation
The annual meetings and new digital exchange formats promote cooperation between organisations, initiatives and individuals in the field.
