About us

Bernd Grafe-Ulke, project manager in the Modular Programme 2025 "Competent against antiziganism"

The "Competence centre against antiziganism" (KogA) project offers various awareness-raising and educational formats to counteract racism against Sinti* and Roma*. KogA works in the context of NS-memorials, is active in historical-political networks and is involved in the "Cooperation Network against Antiziganism" in setting up a nationwide infrastructure against antiziganism.

What characterises KogA?

We, the "Competence center against antigypsyism", have been a project of the Foundation of Lower Saxony Memorials since 2015 and are funded by the federal program "Demokratie leben!" of the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The aim of our historical and political education work in the context of NS-memorial sites is to reduce existing institutional, social and structural discrimination against Sinti* and Roma* and to strengthen societal participation and visibility.

In 2025, we became part of the newly founded nationwide cooperation network against antigypsyism, which works together with the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma e.V., Amaro Drom e.V., the Protestant Academy in Berlin and the Heidelberg Research Centre on Antigypsyism throughout Germany.

One of the main objectives of KogA was and is to qualify and advise multiplicators and institutions from various fields to act in a way that is critical of antigypsyism and sensitive to prejudice and discrimination in order to support the societal participation of Sinti* and Roma* and to take action against antigypsyism. Our focus is on nationwide work in the field of historical-political education in the context of NS-memorial sites, a wide range of further education formats and public events in this field and education work via social media.
